US Pet Frenzy Infographic

December 20, 2011 10:27 am

I do enjoy the odd infographic which usually displays some astonishing numbers  and statistics on any given subject, and when I read the one from FrugalDad.com (one of my favorite reads), I just had to share.

It sort of makes me think that this year, I should NOT buy gifts for my hounds, and in lieu of that, make a donation to the local shelters instead. I mean, people going out and buying diamond eternity bands and other things for their pets is pretty ridiculous when a fraction of that cost could save thousands of animals.

I Have To Hide My Christmas Treats!

December 24, 2010 11:40 am

I own beagles.. two of them. There is not a snowballs chance in h-e-double hockey sticks that they are going to just sit next to the fireplace and allow a stocking full of treats to not be devoured if left alone for 30 seconds (let alone the 4 hours at a time they’re home alone for during week days)… so I have to hide my Christmas treats for them. But, I do have a few tips for you to make it a bit easier.

a) Last minute shop!! They can’t get at something they can’t get to! If you leave it till the last few days before Christmas, they only have a few days to sniff out those treats – but even that said….

b) Hide them high! Top of the closet would be the perfect spot and that’s where I have mine hidden this year – I mean, they don’t know what holiday it is.. they just know the familiar scent of dog treats and want them. So I put them high and they’re not able to get at em!

c) Keep the packaging on. I know most people do this anyhow, but sometimes the packaging can actually keep the scent of new treats restricted to the package itself – so they can’t smell anything. (Note: not my beagles.. they’re retarded at sniffing this stuff out).

d) Do not hide them with other presents – if for some strange reason, the pets DO find the treats and they are hidden with that golden ring you purchased for your sweety – well, chances are your pet is going to be so excited to eat the treats that your precious gift to your loved one may be devoured as well – and don’t think any home or car insurance company is going to help you if that happens.

It’s pretty easy to keep the presents away from your pets until Santa arrives – cuz there’s nothing cuter than watching them unwrap a gift that is actually theirs anyhow!

Christmas Idea For The Pet Lover

December 5, 2009 6:55 pm

I just came up with a great idea for the pet owners out there. In this day and age, I still think that gift certificates are a great gift no matter what the occasion.. I really wish that the idea that they 'insensitive' or non-personal would be erased from my memory as truth be told, I LOVE getting gift cards.. (make sure you not that down :P )

Anyhow, I thought of a great gift idea.. why not get gift cards for your local pet wash?? Personally I'd love to have something like this under my tree as it would be a very cool experience for both me and my hounds since I haven't done it before.

Note about this gift idea... I'm in no way responsible for the hyper post-wash antics of your animals after a bath and if they knock off your 60" plasma from the tv stand, don't blame me.

That said, great gift idea.. let me know if you've done this.. or even if you have one locally in NFLD.. I know we have one that opened up a few years ago.. I've yet to go though here in PEI.
